Therapeutic and Deep Tissue Massage by Julia Giggins

Why Have Massage?

Massage is a ‘hands on’ form of bodywork which can be used in the treatment and prevention of disease and stress

Touch is probably mankind’s most ancient form of communication and in its’ most basic sense massage is using touch to address problems or imbalances within the body

Massage works on many different levels, with different types of treatment having a slightly different focus.

Generally the aims of massage are to re-establish balance, release blockages, alleviate pain, improve circulation, and improve range of movement, amongst others.

Through the relaxation response people often experience a sense of being more ‘connected’, or of being ‘grounded’ in the body, with a greater level of awareness.

Therapeutic Massage

This is an oil massage incorporating aspects of Swedish massage.

The basic long flowing strokes and deeper kneading techniques of Swedish massage work to lengthen; tone and relax the muscles.

Frictions and more percussive techniques can also be used to break down adhesions and soften hard, fibrous areas within the tissues.

The focus of this type of treatment is on relaxation and general well being, it aims to be a whole body treatment and is ideal for those new to bodywork.

The depth of pressure can be varied.
