Johrei
Johrei aims to help balance our Mind, Body and Spirit. It integrates emotional,
physical and spiritual needs to tackle illness and restore our health. Jo
utilises the the three following approaches in combination massage, facial
massage with acupressure and hopi ear candling:
- Emotional: non-verbal as well as verbal support for emotional problems
through establishing a therapeutic relationship, creating a healing
environment and active listening during the consultation
- Physical: physical treatments and tension relief involving finger
pressure and massage, similar to Shiatsu, and stimulation of lymphatic
system using gentle stroking actions
- Spiritual: involving both hands on and hands off energy channelling.
Such methods aid in the dispersal of negativities, relief of stress
and stimulate the kidneys to eliminate toxins from the body.
Johrei is known to have long lasting effects on a wide range of problems. It
is effective in particularly with stress related problems for example neck,
shoulder and back pain, heart condition, high blood pressure, digestive problems,
eczema, sciatica, menstrual problems, fatigue and lack of energy.
Johrei treatment is given fully clothed in three stages:
- The history of your condition and life situation is discussed in
order to achieve a clear understanding. This is the time when you are
given an opportunity to talk about any emotional or spiritual issues
you may have. You are not obliged to talk about anything that makes
you feel uncomfortable.
- Assessment and baseline treatment sitting on a treatment stool in
which both your physical and energetic states are assessed
- Targeted treatment lying on the therapy bed in which the practitioner
targets Johrei treatment for the specific problem from which you may
be suffering.
Johrei is a therapeutic art, which was developed in Japan during the 1920’s
by the Japanese artist, healer and spiritual leader, Meishu-Sama. He suffered
from numerous tragedies such as the loss of his wife during childbirth, and
life threatening illnesses. This led him on a spiritual journey, which enabled
him to discover his ability to heal others and find the importance of embracing
spirituality in daily lives and having a chemical-free all natural diet based
on natural farming techniques, which he called Nature Farming.
Unlike other healthcare systems, Meishu-Sama also placed an emphasis
on BEAUTY as being of importance to our health and well being. Though
studying conventional and traditional medicine of his time and the way
we become ill, he perfected his healing technique, which he called Johrei.
Johrei is based on the understanding that both physical and non-physical
aspects exist in our lives, and that our non-physical aspects namely
our minds and spirit, greatly influence our physical well-being. Our
modern lifestyle constantly exposes us to pollutant and toxins that affect
our body and stress and negativities that cast “clouds” in
our spirit.
The insight Meishu-Sama had was that our body has an inbuilt and natural
function, which automatically works to eliminate toxins and disperse
the “clouds”. He called this the Process of Purification.
This is often associated with some discomfort; we have learnt to think
of it as a minor illness such as (common colds and diarrhoea) that need
to be with suppressed. Instead he found that the practice of Johrei could
help to guide and encourage this natural elimination process without
the discomfort and sometimes life threatening symptoms, which can be
associated with more serious illness.
Meishu-Sama likened our life’s to a work of art and called the healing
process with Johrei, the Art of Life. He saw BEAUTY in every day life as a
very important notion as it can be emotionally uplifting and increases our
spiritual awareness. Thus flower arrangement and art became an integral part
of Johrei practice known as the Art of Beauty. Meishu-Sama also emphasised
the importance of a natural and healthy diet, one that is based on fresh organic
local and seasonal farm produce that is free from harmful chemicals and is
high in vital energy. He called this natural farming technique The Art of Farming.
