Restorative and Therapeutic Yoga with Mel Softley
In these classes classic Yoga Restorative postures are combined with principles of Somatics and Scaravelli inspired yoga, breath work and deep relaxation.
Mel Softley combines her extensive knowledge of Anatomy, Somatic movement, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Therapeutics, Yoga Nidra, Meditation, Breathing and Relaxation to teach individuals about how their bodies can rest and release tension but also through these practices become more alert and aware. Mel’s experience and Therapeutic Yoga training enables her to adapt the postures for those who have conditions which limit the natural range of movement and/or cause pain and fatigue.
These classes are designed to restore energy levels and release tension by adopting slow, mostly floor based practices. These include simple movements of the joints, gentle stretching and alignment awareness to move energy in the body. Some movements are based on Hanne Somatics and Feldenkrais along with slow yoga flows and held restorative postures where the body is supported on yoga props for deep rest. These practices facilitate a deeper awareness of the breath as preparation for breathing practices and deep relaxation and meditation.
