Ayurvedic Massage and Lifestyle Consultations

What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is an integrated natural health system from India. This old art of healing which, goes back 1000’s of years is based on holistic principles of conscious living according to our individual constitutional make up. Ayurveda utilizes food, herbs, oil treatments, massage, yoga, meditation, and mantra to harmonize body, mind and spirit.

How could it work for me?
Most of us feel that the way we live life is out of balance, in some way. Perhaps this imbalance shows up in the form of difficult emotions, such as stress and anxiety, or in physical forms, such as a general fatigue, or lack of enthusiasm for life. Perhaps there’s a difficulty in switching off, mentally, or difficulty with sleeping.
Some of these issues are the result of ineffective eating habits, and excess toxins stored in the body. Some are the result of a habitual self- neglect, and poor lifestyle habits.
Working with Ayurvedic Lifestyle consultancy, and Treatments, it is possible to change eating habits, and cleanse the system. One can introduce new, effective lifestyle habits, in a way that works in harmony with daily life. In this way a shift, from habitual self-neglect, to conscious self-care, naturally occurs.
Applying Ayurveda in this way is very supportive in restoring an overall balance to the system. This balance reflects in greater mental clarity, emotional calm, and physical wellbeing.

Main principles of Ayurveda
Ayurveda can be defined by a few main principles. To really define Ayurveda would require a book of many volumes, so what’s presented here are a few core basics. For a more detailed description of these, please visit my website www.pureayurveda.co.uk

The Five Elements
The ancient sages observed the law of nature, as being made up of the five elements, Ether (Space), Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. These five elements are also manifest in the body as Three Doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Life Force – The Three Doshas
One of the most important principles in Ayuveda is the Three Doshas theory. Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The three Doshas influence our physical and physiological processes. They form the make up of our individual constitution of body, mind and consciousness.

Prakruti: Your Natural Constitution
Ayurveda recognises that we as human beings each have our unique natural constitution, which is determined at the birth by our genetic make up. That is our Prakruti, which is made up of the Vata, Pitta and kapha and is our natural state.

Vikruti: Our Imbalance
With the influence of environment, society and culture where we live, often our balance state gets disturbed. In Ayurveda, this is called Vikruti, the imbalanced state. Vikruti arises when one or more doshas are aggravated and it indicates that the doshas are functioning are improperly in our body.

The Effect of the Seasons
Ayurveda considers seasonal and climate conditions to have a great effect on every individual. If we can recognise and respond to these seasonal changes, we are able to maintain a better stability in our health.

Dietary Advice
Ayurveda defines each food substance, each spice and each medical herb, as having a specific taste. They are six tastes, which are sweet, salty, sour, pungent, bitter and astringent.
Ayurveda uses the six tastes to perform therapeutic actions and affect the three doshas, by raising, lowing and balancing them.

Ayurvedic Massage
There are many different therapies applied in Ayurveda, one of the most beneficial is Ayurvedic massage. Ayurvedic massage works to eliminate imbalance in the doshas, cleanse the body of toxins, and rejuvenate the tissues. It is applied, not only to release tension in the body and mind, but also for its therapeutic effects. Experienced practitioners will identify your current state of body and mind, and give the treatment using suitable techniques, with medicated oils and herbal powders.
